Casio has updated a classic G-Shock series with features from the current times. The series in question is the GA-B2100 series, and the features are Bluetooth connectivity and solar charging.
The G-Shock GA-B2100 is a modern rendition of the classic DW-5000C
series with its unmissable octagonal form factor. It quickly earned the
nickname ‘CasiOak’ and was repeatedly sold out on launch.
The updated GA-B2100 series retains the iconic five-sided bezel look,
and colourways – black, black/grey, yellow, green, and blue. It also
retains the series’ near-invincible properties thanks to the Carbon Core
Guard build, which is a mix of fine resin and carbon fibre. The watch
is also water resistant up to 200 metres.
With built-in solar charging, you can juice up with an entire day’s
worth of power in about eight minutes. Bluetooth connectivity aids in
automatic time updates, and the ability to locate a misplaced phone with
a press of a button.
Despite the new models' enhanced capability, the GA-B2100 has the same length and breadth as the GA-2100 and is only 1 gramme heavier and 0.1 mm thicker.
The GA-B2100 is shock resistant and water resistant to 200 metres thanks to Casio's Carbon Core Guard structure, which combines carbon fibre to reinforce the resin case. The line includes five colour options, beginning with black-on-black and black-on-gray versions and progressing to the more vibrant yellow, green, and blue models. All of these tones are reminiscent of the first G-Shock DW-5600 watches, which were released in the late 1980s.
Despite the addition of modern features, the new series is just a gram
heavier and 0.1mm thicker than 2019’s GA-2100 series. Casio’s GA-B2100
series drops on May 2 in select markets with prices starting from £130
(approx ₹13,000).
